It’s easy to wear the same thing over and over during the winter time. Especially if you live somewhere that has a January with consistently below freezing temperatures. So, today I’m sharing a winter outfit formula to mix things up: a sweater + shorts + tights.
I’m very aware that I put in less effort on very cold days. I’ll walk over to my closet and grab what’s warm and works together. Usually a pair of jeans or trousers, a sweater, and my boots or converse. Add wool socks, a large scarf, a hat, and my winter coat, and that’s my go-to cold outfit for the week.
When I wear something similar too many days in a row, I usually force myself to mix it up. I brainstorm or research winter outfit inspiration to get out of my rut. And one combination I really like this winter is a sweater, winter shorts, and black tights.
Outfit Formula: Sweater + Shorts + Tights
Winter shorts with tights is such a great way to mix up your winter outfits while also getting use out of a piece of clothing that’s probably been sitting in your drawer. There’s many different color and material combinations you can make with this formula. Some ideas:
- Navy sweater, denim shorts, black tights
- Cream sweater, denim shorts, black or navy tights
- Black sweater, black shorts, black or grey tights
I don’t actually own a black sweater so my outfit for this formula consisted of my cream LL Bean sweater, black shorts, and black tights. There are a lot of different shoes you could wear with this outfit as well. I’d wear boots instead of oxfords for really cold days.
