Finding the Perfect Jeans: Analyzing What I Own to Find What’s Missing

I’m currently in the process of trying to find a new go-to pair of jeans. What I’m finding is that this is actually a lot harder than it seems. I decided that before I purchase anything hastily, I should reflect on the jeans I already own. I’m hoping that by looking at how my current jeans fit, I can define what the perfect pair of jeans is for me.

I have a current go-to pair of jeans but I wouldn’t say they are the perfect pair. I very rarely add new jeans to my closet and am wanting an overhaul of what I do have starting with a new go-to pair. Currently, I have a few I don’t wear much so it might be time to replace them and curate jeans I do wear.

I’ve started my search already and have seen a lot of denim online and on Instagram that looks exactly like what I want. I have a general idea of where to start but need to go through and see what I already have before I make any purchases.

Here are the steps I plan on taking to help mindfully find the perfect pair of jeans:

  • Try on and describe the styles of jeans I own
  • Define what each trait is that’s missing from my jeans
  • Choose a budget and a few brands to start searching

Jeans I Currently Own

#1 – Levi’s Boyfriend Fit Jean

I don’t remember the actual name of these jeans. I found them on sale at Bloomingdales last year and haven’t seen them sold anywhere since. These were my first purchase of high waisted, non-skinny jeans. I love that they have a very relaxed and cool aesthetic to them. I love the boyfriend fit but I don’t wear them every day. These definitely satisfy the boyfriend jeans portion of my denim wardrobe.

Qualities:

  • Leg Shape: Wide, Boyfriend
  • Wash: Medium, Distressed
  • Waist: High
  • Weight: Heavy

#2 – J.Crew Vintage High Waisted Jeans

These are my go-to jeans right now. They’re comfortable and fit really well. The only issue I have with them is that they do stretch out after one wear. Not too much that I don’t want to wear them, but it would be nice if they held their shape better. Other than that I love the waist height, the length, and color. These are a great pair of straight leg and slightly loose fitting denim.

Qualities:

  • Leg Shape: Straight
  • Wash: Dark
  • Waist: High
  • Weight: Stretchy

#3 – Paige Skinny Jeans

I don’t really wear these jeans that much. They used to be my everyday jean but I stopped wearing them as much when I started liking higher waists more. I think I’ve had these for at least three years. I wear them time to time but usually more casually. They’re a pretty basic skinny jean. Nothing special or really stylish about them. They are extremely comfortable though. Overall, I like these jeans and don’t sell them because they’re a great pair to throw on during the weekend and wear with tall boots.

Qualities:

  • Leg Shape: Skinny
  • Wash: Medium
  • Waist: Mid
  • Weight: Stretchy

#4 – AG Skinny Dark Jeans

These used to be my go-to jean until I bought my J.Crew ones above. I love that these are extremely skinny. The legs are tight all the way down to the ankle and don’t get baggy after wearing. I don’t always feel like wearing super tight jeans but I still do wear these quite often. The waist isn’t as high as I’d like but overall, I like these jeans.

Qualities:

  • Leg Shape: Skinny
  • Wash: Dark
  • Waist: Mid
  • Weight: Stretchy

Perfect Pair of Jeans Attributes

I think what I want in the perfect pair of jeans are straight but not super skinny, medium or light wash, high waisted, and fitted. I may choose to replace the two I don’t wear but also depends what I find. My first stops are Everlane, Reformation, and Levi’s. I’ll be posting an update in the next few weeks with what I found and photos with fit in case any of you are also going through a similar process.

Qualities:

  • Leg Shape: Straight
  • Wash: Light, Medium, or Vintage
  • Waist: High (10″ to 11″)
  • Weight: Medium
